Nokia N1: Nokia re-enters mobile market with Android-powered tablet

N1

Nokia has entered back in to the mobile market with their all-new Nokia N1 tablet. The N1 will have great specs, and that includes a 64-bit processor made by Intel and sport Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.

The iPad-esque device will come with a 7.9 inch display, 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of ROM, and will come with Nokia's Z Launcher. The Z Launcher is Nokia's stab at their own user-interface and is made to streamline app selection. It uses gestures as the primary way of navigation.

The Nokia tablet will be released early 2015 starting in China, with other markets to follow. It will retail for $249.99, which is very respectable comparing it to other tablets such as the Nexus 9, iPad Air, and Xperia Z3 Compact.

Nokia launches N1, first tablet by Nokia running Android

Rumors of Nokia's demise have been greatly exaggerated. Its lineup might seem empty now that it's relinquished control of its Lumia smartphones to a lumbering giant and gave up on those low-cost Asha devices earlier this year, but that doesn't mean the company's done crafting consumer gadgets just yet. Now Nokia's trying to revive its once-titanic consumer brand, starting with something a little... unorthodox. Meet the Nokia N1: a 7.9-inch Android tablet running some Nokia software that looks like a giant iPhone. It'll cost you $250 when it launches, but it's slated to land in China first in time for Chinese New Year (that's February 19, 2015) with a release in Russia to follow soon after.

Goodbye Nokia

Back in April 2014 Microsoft announced their acquisition of Nokia for 7 Billion Dollars .
Now Nokia is slowly getting over their transition stage on being a full part of Microsoft. From Nokias packaging turning white to Nokia completely losing its name and be left with "Lumia", the official Microsoft phone brand. Right now, Nokia will be slowly changing their social media names to Microsoft Lumia and it will be starting in France. So expect further pages from now to change too. Apart from that, you might have noticed that when you go to www.nokia.com you are redirected to www.microsoft.com/en-ph/mobile.

It's sad to say that one of the pioneers of mobile phones are going to be gone soon. Before the dawn of smartphones, Nokia was the big thing.

Nokia launches Here Maps Beta for Android Devices

As promised earlier, the Finnish giant Nokia has released Here Maps Beta for all Samsung Galaxy and Gear devices to offer “true” offline navigation and an alternative to Google’s pre-loaded Maps. The Maps will work on all Android devices running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and above.

The new HERE navigation app for Android beta can be downloaded from the company’s site. Notably, the app is not available on the Google Play store and it has to be side-loaded on compatible Android smartphones. The beta app works just fine on Android handset with ICS 4.0 or higher, though Nokia recommends 1GB of RAM and 4 to 6-inches screen size for best experience.

So what makes Nokia HERE stand out from other major GPS navigation solutions? While many of the features are the same, Nokia’s HERE has the advantage of offering up the ability to download maps for entire regions (countries, continents, etc) for offline mode viewing and doesn’t require any data connection, means users can explore the map and navigate around a city without spending a penny.

Nokia is still working on some fixes and bugs in the app and recommends HERE for Android beta users to not use cache cleaner apps if they want to use voice-guided turn-by-turn navigation. The company has also shared entire step by step tutorial to install the app, head over at the source link.
HERE features true offline navigation with interactive maps and turn-by-turn voice guidance; offers free offline maps in over 200 countries, public transport maps and directions for over 800 cities in over 40 countries with offline support; live traffic information for more than 40 countries; journey planning on beta.here.com; map personalisation with Collections of favourite places, and the Glympse location sharing feature.

Here Maps Arriving on Android Devices Soon

After waiting for a long period of time, Nokia's Here Maps finally arrived on Android. If you haven't heard of it before, basically Here Maps is a navigation app that lets you download maps and navigate even when you are offline. For now the beta version is only available for Samsung Galaxy users, but surely we can expect it to land on the shore of the play store anytime soon.

Here maps was already available on Android, but exclusively for the Nokia X lineup only. Microsoft is also trying their best to make it a web based app. It also has other great features like voice navigation, public transportation mode, and many more.
